'NCIS' production suspended after man killed in accident on set

The hit show "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service" suspended production after a security guard on set of the show in Santa Clarita, California, was killed in an accident according to local authorities.

The guard, who was not identified by name, was stuck by a van after the driver suffered an unknown medical condition and lost control of the vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries sustained in the accident.

CBS Television Studios and CBS Entertainment later released a joint statement that said, "Everyone at the network, the studio and NCIS is devastated by the news. Our hearts grieve for his family and friends for this tragic loss. We are, of course, cooperating with the local authorities in Santa Clarita to help determine what caused this terrible accident."

"With profound sympathy we mourn the tragic passing of our co-worker and friend," a statement from the producers, cast and crew of the show said. "'NCIS' is a family. And, as with any family, we are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones."

The show, a criminal investigation drama that debuted in 2003, focuses on a team of special agents in the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and stars Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly Cote de Pablo and Pauley Perrette.
