Adrianne Palicki cast as Wonder Woman for the new TV pilot

"Friday Night Lights" actress Adrianne Palicki has been tapped to play the new Wonder Woman in a television pilot by "Ally McBeal" and "Boston Legal" showrunner David E. Kelley for NBC, spokespeople for Palicki confirmed.

The show, simply titled "Wonder Woman," is the retelling of the superhero and her alter ego Diana Prince. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the character "tries to balance her life as a vigilante crime fighter, a successful corporate executive and a modern woman." An NBC spokesperson also confirmed the report.

Palicki has a role in the upcoming remake of "Red Dawn," and also had a role on the short-lived 2010 series "Lone Star." On "Friday Night Lights" the actress played Tyra Collete.

The lasso-wielding superhero was most noticeably seen in live-action form from 1975 to 1979, when "The New Adventures of Wonder Woman" television series starring Lynda Carter was on air.

Carter spoke of the new Wonder Woman series back in November telling Fox News, "I spoke to him (Kelley) several weeks ago and he is perfect for it because he will really give the characters life." She added, "It's not just going to be a cartoon or a comic book thing, which is really what I think we tried to do."

As for whether or not Carter would be in the show, she told the news outlet, "I don't know."
